Press Forward Central Pennsylvania is a chapter of a national movement that aims to strengthen our democracy by revitalizing local news and information sources across the nation.
In our first year, our chapter will focus on several initiatives to support local news and information in the Central Pennsylvania region.
Raising awareness of the value of local news and information, as well as the need for philanthropic support through fundraising assessments and engagement campaigns.
Mapping the region’s information sources to help community members find reliable news for our community to better share vital information.
Engaging new audiences in listening sessions to make local news and information more responsive, relevant, and helpful for communities.

Your donation will be directed to supporting on-the-ground news coverage, product improvements, and vital innovations and collaborations published by the following organizations: LNP|LancasterOnline, WITF, and The Steinman Institute for Civic Engagement.
Why Press Forward?
Since 2005, America has lost nearly 2,900 local newspapers; almost one-third of all newspapers in the country. Of the newspapers that do still exist, about half are owned by hedge funds, and hedge funds don’t care about local communities.
Local news organizations are the community’s best and most reliable source of unbiased information that holds the powerful accountable, shines a light on government decision-making, and helps you stay informed about your community.
For communities without a local watchdog news resource, there are measurable negative consequences:
- Police clear fewer violent crimes.
- The cost of government borrowing goes up.
- Voter turnout drops.
- The number and salaries of government employees goes up.
- And less federal money is allocated locally.
